What is AdvoGuard?

AdvoGuard, Inc. is a non-profit corporation organized under the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It was founded in January 1996 with the mission to serve as court-appointed guardian for all those in need, regardless of ability to pay. AdvoGuard achieved tax-exempt status under §501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code in October of the same year and immediately began accepting clients. AdvoGuard services are exclusively charitable in nature. When a Massachusetts court appoints AdvoGuard as guardian of an individual and/or the individual's estate, AdvoGuard is fulfilling one or more of these purposes of its charter:

Providing guardianship services to mentally ill persons pursuant to Massachusetts General Law 201, subsections 6, 6A, and 6B.
Providing guardianship or fiduciary services to mentally retarded persons who are unable to make or communicate informed decisions due to physical incapacity or other illness.
Providing guardianship or fiduciary services to mentally ill persons or persons who are deemed incompetent by any federal court, law or agency, or by any Massachusetts court, law or agency.

As of May 2002, AdvoGuard serves more than 175 clients in all seven eastern Massachusetts counties and experiences about a 4% net increase in clientele each month. Who is AdvoGuard?

Michael P. Azzara, J.D., R.G., President and Tresurer
Mr. Azzara holds a Juris Doctorate in Business and Corporate Law. Mr. Azzara is one of only a hand-full of registered Guardians in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. As a director and co-founder of AdvoGuard, Inc., Mr. Azzara uses his acumen for business and applies it to the monitoring of care and services in everyday life.

Christopher L. Oliveira, M.Ed., R.G., Vice President and Corporate Secretary
Mr. Oliveira holds a Bachelor Degree in Psychology and a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology. He has been the Vice Preisdent since October 2002, and has worked for the corporation since 1996. Mr. Oliveira has over 16 years experience working with children and adults through the Department of Mental Health. He also has over a decade of clinical experience that has proved to be a great asset to the company and especially our clients.
